About the Friends


Friends of Southwest Louisiana National Wildlife Refuges and Wetlands is a non-profit organization of volunteers, committing to the mission and support of the U.S. FWS Refuge System, notably the Southwest LA NWR Complex.

This nonprofit organization, Friends of SW LA NWR & Wetlands, is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes as defined and allowed in IRS Code 501 (c)(3).

Pupose of Friends SWLA NWR Complex and Wetlands

The organizations purpose is advancement of the Southwest Louisiana National Wildlife Refuges (SW LA NWR's) and associated wetlands.


Mission of Friends SWLA NWR Complex and Wetlands

To promote conservation awareness, education, and to provide assistance to the SWLA NWR Complex. Objectives of the Friends group include but are not limited to:


  •  Initiating, endorsing and supporting suitable endeavors that will advance the fulfillment of the financial, legal, administrative, scientific, and professional needs of the SW LA Refuges.
  • Fundraising activities
  • Providing interpretive and educational materials for the benefit of the visiting public.
  • Advocacy of rehabilitation, repair, restoration, and continued preservation and conservation of SW LA Refuge lands and facilities.
  • Creating Refuge support throughout the extended community by working with various civic, educational, social and commercial organizations.
  • Providing events and networking opportunities to provide citizens with the tools necessary to make the refuges of Southwest Louisiana and the system stronger for the future.

How to Join

To join the Friends of Southwest Louisiana National Wildlife Refuges and Wetlands group fill out a membership application or attend a meeting.
