Snow Goose

Snow Geese (Chen carulescens) can be found in large quantities in a variety of wetland and agricultural habitats in the area. The species will migrate through the area in the early spring and late fall, usually pushing the “iceline” in the spring. They are a hardy species that will migrate into the Prairie Pothole Region before the lakes and ponds melt for the spring and may stay until they start freezing up in the fall. They breed on the arctic tundra and winter in the southern U.S.
