After proposing a draft revised hunt plan in the summer of 2016, the final Savannah NWR Hunt Plan has now been reviewed by the public and finalized and approved by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The original draft proposed an increase the size of areas open to hunting, as well as the opening the refuge to hunting for mourning dove, Wilson’s snipe, rabbit, and coyote. All proposed changes were implemented into the final plan with the exception of adding Wilson's snipe; this species was removed from the plan.
