  • Hunt Unit Status

Below are our expectations regarding opening day quotas for each hunt unit.  Please note that a variety of factors might cause our forecast to change before opening day, such as malfunctions with pumps and other infrastructure, or unusually warm weather.

San Luis Unit of San Luis NWR:  Full quota for opening day.

Blue Goose Unit of San Luis NWR:  Full quota/all blinds open on opening day.

Kesterson Unit of San Luis NWR:  Full quota/all blinds open on opening day.

North and South Freitas Units of San Luis NWR:  Full quotas on opening day.

West Bear Creek Unit of San Luis NWR:  The West Bear Creek Unit normally opens on the 3rd Saturday of November.  We expect all ponds to open on November 17.

East Bear Creek Unit of San Luis NWR:  The East Bear Creek Unit normally opens on the 3rd Saturday of November.  We expect both zones to open on November 17.

Merced NWR:  We are aiming for all blinds to be open on opening day, but there is a possibility that 3-4 blinds might not have enough water by opening weekend.

Lonetree Unit of Merced NWR:  The Lonetree Unit opens normally opens the 3rd Saturday in November.  We expect the bypass hunt zones (Zones C, D, E) to open on November 17.  No water is available to flood Zones A and B, and they will remain closed unless water becomes available.
