Habitat: Impundment
Coastal Plain Semi-permanent Impoundment
The Coastal Plain Semi-permanent Impoundments are areas within the forested wetlands that are flooded deep enough for long enough that trees cannot survive. Herbaceous plants, such as pickerelweed, duck potato, and Pennsylvania smartweed, dominate the stands. Shrubs, such as buttonbush, swamp rose, and swamp loosestrife are common. If trees occur, they are bald cypress and swamp tupelo.
