Photography & Wildlife Observation

Birding-fwsX520

The Refuge is home to numerous local and migratory birds. Check our bird brochure for optimum viewing seasons.  While our only maintained trail is The Kuralt Trail, the Refuge also maintains Conine North and Askew East and West roads. These dirt roads, located on either side of Hwy 13/17 near the Roanoke River Bridge just outside of Williamston, offer a bounty of wildlife viewing/photography opportunities.  There are no designated parking areas on the dirt roads.  Park along the roadside and do not block the gate. Download the Refuge bird list.
