For Kids

Fun Day on the Refuge!

Alligator River and Pea Island National Wildlife Refuges, as well as the National Wildlife Refuges Visitor Center, have a lot to offer for children of all ages. What does the fur of a black bear or red wolf feel like? How do the refuges look from high above in an airplane? Find out at the National Wildlife Refuges Visitor Center! You may also join our weekly Free Preschool Young Naturalist Program on Fridays from 10:00-11:00. Hear a story, do a craft, and take a guided hike on the short nature trail behind the building. Although geared towards children age five and under, we welcome all ages! Pick up one of the scavenger hunt sheets and a clipboard and explore the exhibit hall and trail with your child. Discover the answers together as you experience many of the hands-on displays.

Our summer interpretive programs on the refuges and at the Visitor Centers are a great way to introduce your children to the wonders of wildlife and wild lands. See our program guide for more details.
