Hunting is prohibited on Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge. Because the refuge was established by Congressional Act and Presidential Proclamation as a sanctuary for migratory birds, there will never be hunting for migratory birds on this refuge.  In the past, there have been hunts for rabbits and Ring-necked Pheasants.  The refuge will continue to evaluate non-migratory bird game specie populations regularly for potential hunting opportunities.

Refuges in the area that have hunting programs include:

Cape Hatteras National Seashore also has waterfowl hunting from blinds on Bodie Island, just North of Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge and deer hunting opportunities in various locations throughout the park.
