Hunting at Okefenokee NWR

Hunting_512

Hunting is one of the Big Six priority public uses of the National Wildlife Refuge System.

Okefenokee is one of many national wildlife refuges in the United States that offer hunting opportunities to the visiting public. The primary objective of a national wildlife refuge is to provide habitat for the conservation and protection of all species of wildlife. Public hunting on the Okefenokee NWR is permitted in three areas, the Suwannee Canal Recreation Area, the Pocket, and the Cowhouse Unit at certain times of the year. All hunters must possess all applicable Georgia hunting licenses in accordance with state regulations.

The Suwannee Canal Recreation Area Hunt permits will be issued via lottery.  Lottery applications will be accepted from August 15-September 15, 2017. Download the lottery application.  PLEASE DO NOT SEND IN THE $15 PERMIT FEE WITH YOUR APPLICATION.  If you are drawn for the hunt, we will notify you and request payment for the permit fee.

Check out the Okefenokee Hunt Brochure for complete regulations.
