Youth Conservation Corps


Youth Conservation Corps Crew members work side-by-side refuge staff and partake in experiences that last a life time!

About the Program:

Necedah National Wildlife Refuge is hiring four teens age 15 to 18 to work on a Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) crew. The employment will begin on June 15, 2020, will last for 8 weeks.  Pay will be minimum wage and 40 hours each week. This is a good work experience for teens interested in conservation and working in the outdoors. The program includes 4 hours per week of environmental education. 


Projects include but are not limited to:

  • Building and improving hiking trails
  • Landscaping
  • Painting facilities
  • Constructing signs
  • Preparing whooping crane pens
  • Various other biological, visitor services, and maintenance projects  

To Apply:

Complete a YCC application and return it to the Necedah National Wildlife Refuge:
  • US Postal Service - applications must be postmarked by April 18, 2020. 
  • Hand delivered - applications must be received at the Visitor’s Center no later than 4:00 pm on April 18, 2020.                            
Applicant selection will be by a random drawing on Friday, May 1, 2020.  Selected applicants will be notified on or before May 8, 2020.
