Commercial Fishing Guide Permit Available

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Announces Lottery to Issue Commercial Fishing Guide Permit

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will begin accepting applications for one available commercial fishing guide permit beginning February 16, 2019. Persons who do not currently possess a permit to guide on the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, and would like to secure one, have until March 16, 2019. Applications are available online and can be emailed or delivered via the U.S. Postal Service.

Submitted applications will be placed into a lottery. There are 69 permitted fishing guides; one permit is available for 2019. The name drawn will receive a prorated permit for April 1, 2019. The drawing will be held on March 18, 2019 at the Refuge Visitor Center.

A commercial special use permit is required to conduct any sort of commercial activity on the Merritt Island National Wildlife refuge. Currently the Refuge administers and oversees 70 commercial use permits for fishing guides. Selected individuals must meet all stipulations including liability insurance, licensing and all other requirements before receiving a permit.
