Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge

The refuge partners with several organizations to be able to provide special event opportunities to the public free of charge. Our annual events include Spring Spectacular (formerly Spring Into Nature) on May 11, 2024, a celebration welcoming spring back to the swamps; Youth Fishing Derby (in lieu of the Derby, this year we will have a "Drop By Youth Fishing Day". See details in the events calendar below) and Veteran Family Fishing Day - a free fishing day for veterans and their families.  Iroquois Observations are free nature programs  which are scheduled throughout the year. See the events calendar below. These events are presented in partnership with our Friends Group, Friends of Iroquois NWR, INC.

Outreach 

Outreach events help to inform and remind the public about the Refuge purpose and opportunities they can enjoy the refuge. You may see us at a fair, public exhibition, or festival spreading the word of Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Buffalo Urban Wildlife Refuge Partnership

With several partners, the Buffalo Urban Wildlife Refuge Partnership engages youth in learning about native habitats, water systems and waterway connectivity, while working on habitat restoration projects such as  invasive species invasive species
An invasive species is any plant or animal that has spread or been introduced into a new area where they are, or could, cause harm to the environment, economy, or human, animal, or plant health. Their unwelcome presence can destroy ecosystems and cost millions of dollars.
