Friends of Maga Ta-Hohpi Events

The Huron Wetland Management District's Friends Group is Friends of Maga Ta-Hohpi (MA-HAH-TA-HOP-EE) Waterfowl Production Area (WPA). Maga Ta-Hohpi WPA is a 1,153 acres WPA that is located 8 miles west of the town of Huron. The Friends of Maga Ta-Hohpi WPA received the "Friends Group of the Year Award" in 2013 from the National Wildlife Refuge Association. The Friends Group assists the Huron WMD with outreach events on the Maga Ta-Hohpi WPA and in the Huron Community.     The Huron WMD office is located on the third floor of the Federal Building in Huron, SD. The physical address is 200 4th St. SW, Room 309. The Huron WMD shop is located on the Maga Ta-Hohpi WPA. The shop is eight miles west of Huron, SD on Highway 14 and 3/4 of a mile north on 392nd St. The physical address is 20721 392nd Ave., Wolsey, SD Office phone number is (605)352-5894 Shop phone number is (605)353-1382.

    We welcome you to the Huron WMD one of five wetland management districts in eastern South Dakota. Wetland management district protect wetlands and grasslands for migratory birds. Visitors that come in the spring and fall can witness large migrations of ducks, geese and other migratory birds. Summer visitors often see waterfowl broods.
