Draft Boating Compatibility Determination

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announces that a draft recreational boating Compatibility Determination (CD) for Havasu National Wildlife Refuge is now available for public review and comment.

A previous draft CD, released in April of 2016, was withdrawn after the Service decided more deliberation was required. A copy of the revised draft Compatibility Determination can be found here (along with draft maps of the northern area and southern area of the refuge).

The public comment period will be open for 30 days, beginning August 1, 2017 through August 30, 2017. To be part of the record, comments must be in writing. In addition comments must be received on, or postmarked by, August 30, 2017.

A public Listening Session is scheduled for August 17, 2017. More information including time and location will be available soon, please watch for an additional News Release and updates on the Refuge website. Public participation in this process is important to ensure future recreational activities on the Refuge offer quality experiences for all visitors while meeting the purpose of the Refuge.

All comments on the draft CD are considered public records. Anonymous and oral comments will not be considered. The Service will take all submissions from individuals, organizations or businesses, and from individuals identifying themselves as representatives or officials of organizations or businesses, available for public inspection in their entirety. Individual respondents may request that their names and addresses are withheld from the public record. If you wish to withhold your name and/or address, you must state that request prominently at the beginning of your comment. The Service will honor such requests to the extent allowed by law. Please note that due to public disclose requirements, the Service, if requested, may have to make the names and addresses of those who submit written comments public.
