Final Compatibility Determination on Traditional Gathering (noncommercial plant collection) at Guam NWR Available

The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (Service) has finalized the new Compatibility Determination (CD) for Traditional Gathering in the Ritidian Unit of the Guam National Wildlife Refuge. Also known as "non-commercial plant collection", this is a re-evaluation of an existing use previously allowed to occur on the Refuge with a permit from the Service. The Service will allow, with a permit, the continuation of gathering lemmai (breadfruit) and niyok (coconuts) on refuge lands for personal use. The collection of medicinal plant clippings will also continue to be permitted. The Service received written comments during a 30-day public comment period ending October 30, 2020 and the Service responses are posted below.

If you have questions about the permitting process, please contact: Marybelle Quinata at marybelle_quinata@fws.gov.
