HighlightsThis trail provides hikers with views of one of the last remaining vernal pools in South San Francisco Bay and the largest area of seasonal grasslands on the refuge. These vernal pools protect the endangered Contra Costa wallflower and vernal pool tadpole shrimp, and the federally-threatened California tiger salamander. Wildflower displays can be spectacular in spring. Burrowing owls, a Species of Special Concern, and the occasional peregrine falcon and golden eagle can sometimes be seen here in the winter. The trail ends at the brown metal gate.
