Currituck Refuge is open to waterfowl and big game hunting by permit only.  Download and print the current year Hunting Regulations and Map.  (Download larger map). Applications and fee are no longer required.

Waterfowl hunting permits are issued by the NC Wildlife Resource Commission.  Big Game Hunting permits are issued by the Refuge for deer and feral pig hunting by shotgun, muzzleloading rifle/shotgun, and bow and arrow (rifles and cross bows are prohibited). A valid NC State big game hunting license and signed Refuge permit are required to hunt deer on the Refuge.

No reservations are required and hunters may select sites and hunt anywhere within the designated hunting areas during the authorized seasons.

There are also special Permit Hunting Opportunities throughout the area, visit the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission page for details.

There is no bag limit on feral pigs. Feral pigs are not native to the barrier island.

Waterfowl hunting is permitted by permit only. Download waterfowl hunting information, by downloading the Refuge hunting brochure. Access is by boat only, with a shallow draft boat highly recommended. Be prepared to pole in some areas due to water depth changes due to wind tides. Some blinds may be inaccessible due to low water, and if so, that hunt could be canceled. Hunting is permitted during the state waterfowl season on Fridays and Saturdays only between November and January.

Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission Application and Draw
Hunters may apply for blinds through the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) at any Wildlife Service Agent (License Agents). The blinds on Currituck NWR are listed in the Waterfowl - Coastal section of the NCWRC’s publication.

Check-in and Standby Draw
All hunters holding a NCWRC Waterfowl Hunt Permit for Currituck NWR must check-in at the Knotts Island Market no later than 5:15 am the morning of the hunt. Failure to check-in will result in the assigned blind being reassigned to another hunter. A standby drawing will be held at 5:15 am at the Knotts Island Market.
