The Southwest Louisiana National Wildlife Refuge Complex including Cameron Prairie, Sabine, and Lacassine National Wildlife Refuges (NWR) will open for public sport fishing Monday, March 15, 2021 through October 15, 2021. Boat admittance into the refuges is permitted from one hour before legal sunrise to one hour after legal sunset. Fishing and crabbing are permitted from legal sunrise to legal sunset. Only boats with motors of 40 horsepower or less may be used in Lacassine Pool and Sabine’s Unit 3 Impoundment. Use of surface drive motors and push poles are encouraged.

Gibbstown Unit
Fishing is permitted in accordance with state laws in designated areas. Fishing is permitted along Bankfishing Road and its associated ditches year round. Hand launched non-motorized boats are permitted in the water along bank fishing road and in the roadside ditches, however, launching may only take place from Bankfishing Road or its parking areas. Fishing is also permitted in Outfall Canal from March 15 through October 15. See Refuge Complex fishing regulations for additional information.

East Cove Unit 

Fishing, boating, and crabbing are permitted year round except during the Louisiana waterfowl hunting season and/or when the Grand Bayou boat bay is closed. Motorized boats may be operated in East Cove Unit canals, bayous, and lakes with no restrictions on boat motor horsepower. Only electric trolling motors and push poles may be used in refuge marshes.
