Why is it here? The refuge was originally established to provide habitat for wintering migratory waterfowl and other bird life.

What can I do there? Visitors can enjoy wildlife-dependent activities, including wildlife watching, photography, hunting, fishing, environmental education programs and nature walks.  

How can I access the refuge?
The Big Slough Recreation Area and Discovery Center is where most of our visitors go to enjoy the refuge.  It is three miles east of the refuge entrance. 

Are pets allowed? Yes but they must remain on leashes.

Can I bring and release wildlife on the refuge? Releasing any animal (wildlife or unwanted pets) on the Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge is illegal and subject to a fine.
