Fall Fishing Day 2018

TPWD Assists in Providing Extended Fishing Opportunities on Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge

Starting in 2017, the Refuge has partnered with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in order to host an additional free fishing day, entitled “Fall Fishing Day” to provide yet another free fishing opportunity for the public. The 2nd Annual Fall Fishing Day on Anahuac NWR was held on Saturday, October 27th, 2018 from 9am-1pm on the East Galveston Bay.

This year we had around 150 participants join in on the fun on the Refuge. The Refuge, Anahuac Friends Group and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department provided poles, bait, crabbing supplies, and fish cleaning equipment free of charge to the public. Staff and volunteers provided instruction and guidance on fishing and crabbing techniques as well as crafts and games for children. The public were also able to participate in monarch research tagging. In addition to visiting local families and boy-scout troops, Refuge partner Houston Community Partnerships & Engagement enabled students from Furr High School from downtown Houston to join for the event.

Thanks to Refuge partners Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and Houston Community Partnerships & Engagement, many youths had their first experience fishing and catching a fish. The Refuge staff, partners, and volunteers are looking forward to the next annual Fall Fishing Day. We hope you join us next fall for our 2019 event!
