Wassaw NWR is managed as a unit of the Savannah Coastal Refuges Complex which is headquartered in Hardeeville, South Carolina. To contact the Complex headquarters call (843) 784-2468, Monday through Saturday from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM. The Complex headquarters is closed on Sundays.
Wassaw NWR is barrier island located in Chatham County, GA, just southeast of the city of Savannah. The refuge is only accessible by boat and visitors are responsible for providing their own transportation (personal or chartered boat). Visitors using their own boats may launch from any public boat launch facility in the Savannah area. There are a number of charter services and private boat captains operating out of local marinas like Bull River Marina and Isle of Hope Marina.
All refuge lands (not including facilities mentioned above which have specific hours) are open during daylight hours, seven days a week, unless otherwise closed for management purposes.
