Federal Junior Duck Stamp Program & Contest

This is a dynamic art and science based program that teaches wetland and waterfowl conservation to students from kindergarten through high school.  The program encourages students to explore their natural world, invites them to investigate biology and wildlife and challenges them to express and share what they have learned with others or through submitting a drawing to participate in the stamp contest.  In the future, the Vieques NWR will be offering basic drawing lessons for those interested in participating in the drawing contest.

The winning artwork from the national contest serves as the design for the Jr Duck Stamp, which the USFWS produces annually. This $5 stamp supports the program and is highly sought after by stamp collectors. 100% of the sales of stamps support conservation and environmental education for students in this program.

Archery program

Archery is a great way for children and adults to get involved with nature and provides fun outdoors, encouraging participants to gain confidence and respect.  The Vieques NWR started a pilot program with YCC Enrollees in 2015, teaching them basic archery fundamentals.  The program is conducted by LE Officer Raúl Sánchez, who was certified as a US Archery instructor through the USFWS youth archery initiative. Ages are from 8 to adult.  This program will be established and open to the community in the near future.  Stay tuned for more information and details.
