Arch Rock, Maxwell Point, Oceanside

Conservationists William L. Finley and Herman Bohlman began photographing the wildlife at Three Arch Rocks from the town of Oceanside in 1901. After numerous research trips to the rocks in following years, Finley brought their findings to Roosevelt in 1903. Most of these images were taken on those initial forays.

William L. Finley and Herman Bohlman were the first to take pictures of wildlife at Three Arch Rocks. Their efforts led to the refuge's creation, in 1907, to protect its seabird and pinniped populations from profligate hunting during that period.
