Swan River National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) is in the heart of the Swan Valley and sits between the Mission Mountains to the west and the Swan Mountains to the east.


The Refuge is located just off the west side of state highway 83 in northwest Montana near the south end of Swan Lake about 23 miles southeast of the town of Bigfork. There are no significant human developments here except a small parking area from which one can access a kiosk and an overlook with interpretive panels. The kiosk and wildlife viewing platform are accessible. Swan River NWR is managed by the Benton Lake National Wildlife Refuge Complex located at 922 Bootlegger Tr., Great Falls, MT 59404.
