Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge's fall hunting season is September 1 through February 15, for various game bird and waterfowl species. Several Improvements have been made to approximately 60 acres of wetlands and riparian habitat, to enhance your hunting experience!


Seasonal refuge Hunting in the Rio Puerco Unit begins September 1, starting with a variety of dove species. Hunting is allowed in the Rio Puerco Unit, Monday through Sunday from ½ hour before sunrise until sunset.

This Unit's Species Hunt season includes: Three (3) Dove species; with White-winged dove, Mourning dove, and Eurasian collared-dove hunt periods which annually start September 1 through October 28, and again, December 1 through January 1.

Gambel’s Quail season is November 15, through February 15.  

Fall and Winter hunting is allowed in Unit A and B on the refuge on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday from ½ hour before sunrise until 1:00 pm.

This Unit's Species Hunt season includes: Three (3) Dove species; which include Eurasian collared-dove, White-winged, and Mourning dove hunting periods are from September 1 through October 28 - and again December 1 through January 1.

Waterfowl species include:  American Coots October 24 through January 27; Ducks October 24 through January 27; Middle Rio Grande Valley Dark goose December 22 through January 15; Light goose including (Snow & Ross’s) is October 13 through January 27.
