Visiting Kotzebue

kotzebue aerial summer

Most travelers to the Selawik National Wildlife Refuge pass through Kotzebue on their trip. Kotzebue is the regional hub for the northwest arctic and offers a variety of services for travelers. Lodging, restaurants, groceries, fuel, airlines and air charter services are located here. More information is available from the City of Kotzebue’s website.

Visit the Northwest Arctic Heritage Center, run by the National Park Service, to learn about natural history, local culture, and recreation in our region. More information is available on the Noatak National Park & Preserve website (scroll to the bottom of the page for a video tour of the Heritage Center).

Visitors are also welcome at the Selawik National Wildlife Refuge headquarters during our normal hours of operation (8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday); although we don’t offer special interpretive displays, staff are happy to answer your questions. Find us at 160 Second Avenue, about a 10-minute walk from the airport, near the Northwest Arctic Borough and Wells Fargo bank.
