Rules and Regulations

The refuge is open to the public from 1 hour before sunrise until 1 hour after sunset. Camping overnight or parking is prohibited. 



Vehicles are permitted only on designated access roads. ATVs and snowmobiles are not permitted on the refuge. 



Pets must be under physical control via a leashed no longer than 6 feet when outside of vehicles.



Firearms may be transported through the refuge in vehicles ONLY when unloaded and cased, or dismantled. Shotguns are permitted in designated hunting areas during the waterfowl season. 


Alcoholic Beverages 

The possession or use of alcoholic beverages while hunting is prohibited on all National Wildlife Refuges. 


Prohibited Activities 

Littering, fires, cleaning or filleting fish, water skiing, jet skiing, swimming, fireworks, and collecting plants and objects of antiquity, including native American artifacts is prohibited. 



Fishing is allowed according to Nevada State Fishing Regulations and specific Refuge fishing regulations 



Waterfowl hunting on Ruby Lake's South Marsh is allowed each season following both Nevada State Hunting Regulations (external link) and specific Refuge hunting regulations. 



Boating regulations at Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge are the direct result of a lawsuit that reduced the season and horsepower allowed for boating.  Please pay close attention to these limitations as they are court mandated.
