Law Enforcement

Law enforcement is an integral part of managing the 150 million-acre National Wildlife Refuge System. Through education and enforcement Refuge officers are responsible for protecting our natural resources, the public, and employees.

For any crime or wildlife emergency in progress call 911 immediately
and get yourself to a safe place.

To report non-emergency violations on the Refuge please call the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge Complex Office during regular business hours (M-F): 360-887-4106

After hours non-emergency wildlife violations can be reported to the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife Poaching Hotline: 1-877-933-9847

Always keep yourself safe and do not take it upon yourself
to enforce rules or regulations.

Our Law Enforcement Goals:

  1. Enhance the protection and management of fish, wildlife, and other natural and cultural resources on NWRS lands and conservation easements;
  2. Obtain compliance from the public with laws and regulations necessary for proper administration, management, and protection of federally protected fish and wildlife;
  3. Provide a safe environment for Service employees, volunteers, and visitors; and
  4. Assist visitors in understanding refuge laws and regulations through effective outreach and positive visitor contacts.
