Recent Management:  Eckhardt is a favorable area for management.  Its small size and wetland depth makes it relatively easy to add water during spring and fall migration.  The wetland, however, is continually plagued with dense stands of bulrush.  Scattered open areas are maintained with either shredding openings or grazing the wetland.

The upland has a good stand of native grass seeding, but the diversity of grasses is limited to about five species over most of the area.  A small patch of native, non-farmed ground exists which contains a higher diversity of forbs and grasses.

In the fall of 2009, the old electric motor on the well was replaced with a new submersible pump.  The new pump requires less maintenance and gives us more flexibility on when and how long we operate the well.
