Pee Dee National Wildlife Refuge provides many different programs for children both on refuge and off. Each year several events are held just for kids, including a youth fishing rodeo, a youth turkey hunt and a youth deer hunt. The Friends of the Pee Dee National Wildlife Refuge provide the food and drinks for all of these events. The North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission stocks the pond with catfish for the fishing rodeo.
Every Spring the refuge partners with the Anson County Extension Office to present 2 weeks of Environmental Field Days. During this time every second and third grader in the County participates in several hands-on outdoor programs.
Each Fall, the Night Prowl attracts a large crowd. The favorite activities for kids include hayrides, roasting marshmellows and walking on the trails. Refuge Staff also present many off-refuge programs at schools, local events and festivals.
