Due to a reduction in refuge staff, we are currently not accepting new volunteers at the Oxbow National Wildlife Refuge. 


The refuge complex typically has a variety of internship opportunities each year ranging from biology and invasive species work to interpretation and education. Internships are a great way to experience what it is like to work on public lands and make a contribution to natural resource conservation. All internship opportunities will be posted between November-March on one of the following webpages:




Friends Group

The refuge is fortunate to have the support of a dedicated group of people called The Friends of the Oxbow National Wildlife Refuge. The group was formed in 1998 to support the Service, and to encourage individuals to actively participate in helping protect refuge resources. The friends have been active in funding and supporting the Refuge in many ways. The Friends have recently raised funds for the handicap-accessible canoe launch on the Nashua River and the equipment shed at the Bill Ashe Visitor Facility. Check out their Facebook page:
