We are on the lookout for an eye-catching mural design that will welcome refuge visitors to our main parking lot. We will provide the winning artist with the paint and materials necessary to transform our new restroom building into a work of art.

Who we’re looking for:

  • High School and College Students
  • Both individuals and groups welcome

What we’re looking for:

  • We would love to see designs that incorporate the native flora and fauna of Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Draw inspiration from the rich diversity of forest, grassland and wetland ecosystems within the refuge and greater Potomac River.
  • If you need resources for the types of plants and animals you can find at the refuge you can visit our flickr page here, or come out to the refuge and experience it yourself.
  • We would prefer designs full of color, try to steer clear of black & white pallets.
  • We welcome a diverse range of art styles, be as creative as you’d like!

Keep in mind:

  • Words are allowed but must be relevant and appropriate.
  • If your piece includes images of people, they must be participating in refuge-appropriate activities.
    • Remember we’d like the mural to reflect the refuge so activities like BBQs, sports, and dog walking are not allowed.
