Designed by Albert Kahn as part of the original base housing for officers in 1941. There are nine houses in a row, the Officer in Charge house is across the road.
Albert Kahn (1869-1942) was born in Germany and moved to the United States in 1880. Through innovative building designs, Kahn improved factory lighting and ventilation using steel frame, multi-pane windows arranged in walls or roofs to create huge volumes of natural light. These designs were used for the industrial buildings on Midway Atoll.

During the breeding season, adult tropicbirds (see one pictured above over Midway lagoon) fly in a group around one another, swinging their tail streamers from side to side for several minutes to attract the female bird. Their courtship displays are complex and consist of flying backwards, vertically, and in large, vertical circles.
