Concert for the birds event / USFWS

The refuge hosts and participates in many special events throughout the year that are fun for the whole family!

Concert for the Birds: The Concert for the Birds is traditionally held on the last Sunday in September. This celebration is conducted on the refuge in appreciation to the wildlife we enjoy throughout the year. Local musicians are invited to perform for the public as they enjoy the great outdoors.

Fall Flight Festival: EACH NOVEMBER! Beginning the first Sunday in November. Visit the wildlife drive open only on Sundays in Fall Festival graphic 150 x 99November. At this time of year, the five miles of back roads are open so visitors can get a closer look at some of the exciting birds that visit the refuge during the fall migration, with restrictions to minimize disturbance to wildlife. Also, a variety of Interpretive Programs will be presented in the refuge Visitor Center. All the activities are Free, and for the entire family. This annual Festival is routinely the first or second weekend, Sunday in November.

The events listed below are a few of the nation-wide programs the refuge supports.

National Wildlife Refuge Week Celebration: Celebrate your National Wildlife Refuge System! A week of fun wildlife-related tours, talks and walks. This event is typically held the second full week of October. Check back to this page or the Events Calendar for details.

International Migratory Bird Day: On the second Saturday of May the refuge participates in this international day of celebrating migratory birds. The education program highlights the migration of nearly 350 species of migratory birds between nesting habitats in North America and non-breeding grounds in Latin America, Mexico, and the Caribbean.

National Public Lands Day (NPLD): The nation's largest, single-day volunteer event for public lands in the United States. NPLD is typically held on the last Saturday in September but check back for details. This popular event is a great volunteer opportunity and a fun way you can help national wildlife refuges.
