The refuge is open year-round during daylight hours or from sunrise to sunset. It may be open on a limited basis outside these hours for special events sponsored by the refuge.

Visitor Center Hours

November - March

8am - 4:30 pm eastern time 7 days/week

April - October*

8 am - 4:30 pm eastern time Monday - Friday

*Due to current staffing constraints, the visitor center may be closed intermittently for several days or part of the day from April-October. Please call 386-985-4673 for current availability. 

Closed on all federal holidays. 

Maps, brochures and other informational materials can also be found in the kiosk located near the entrance to the parking lot.


Driving Directions

Lake Woodruff NWR is located 25 miles west of Daytona Beach, Florida, and 7 miles north of DeLand on US Highway 17 near the community of DeLeon Springs, Florida. From Highway 17 in DeLeon Springs, turn west and go one block to Grand Avenue. Turn south on Grand and go approximately 3 blocks to Mud Lake Road. Refuge directional signs are prominently displayed on both US 17 and Grand Avenue to direct the way to the refuge and headquarters office.


Visiting the Refuge and Visitor Center is free. If you are participating in the hunts at the Refuge, you will be required to pay all hunting fees.

What to Do

A variety of outdoor activities take place on the Refuge including nature photography, birding, hiking, fishing and boating. Fifteen miles of trails are available for hiking, bicycling, and horseback riding. (Not all trails are open for horseback riding due to the type of trail and location).
