Special Refuge Regulations and Prohibited Activities

Permitted Activities

  • Youth deer season:  A limited portion of the Refuge is open during the special youth season.  Participants must contact the Refuge Manager for permission and regulations prior to hunting.
  • Portable tree stands are permitted, but must be removed each day after use.  Screw-in tree steps or similar objects which may damage trees are prohibited.
  • Motorized boats are allowed during the migratory game bird hunting season only; however motors must not exceed 10 hp and must stay within the designated public hunting area
  • Non-Toxic shot is required for the hunting of all upland and migratory game birds on Lake Alice Refuge, and all Waterfowl Production Areas.
  • Hunting fox in the public hunting area during the State firearms deer season is limited to those possessing a valid deer permit.
  • Vehicles:  Vehicles and fish houses are allowed on the ice as conditions allow. Vehicles are restriced to non-vegetated ice areas and designated roads. Parking allowed on ice or in designated parking areas. 
  • Ice fishing is allowed from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m local time. All personal property including fish houses must be removed by 10::00 p.m. each day. 
  • Foot travel is permitted on designated trails and roads only, however many of these roads and trails are flooded. Foot travel is allowed during hunting season in open hunting areas, but limited to hunting activities. 

Prohibited Activities

  • Camping
  • Open fires
  • Gathering of firewood
  • Shooting from or across refuge roads
  • Trapping, baiting and spot-lighting
  • Pit blinds
  • Littering
