Biological Collections


The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge houses biological collections (international collection coden: KNWR) cataloging biodiversity of the western Kenai Peninsula. Data from over 12,000 records of our specimens and observations are available on Arctos via a Kenai National Wildlife Refuge portal. These data are also published monthly from Arctos to the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF).

Loans of KNWR specimens for research purposes are encouraged.  Since most KNWR arthropod specimens are eventually to be deposited at the University of Alaska Museum, please refer to the UAM entomology collection loan policy for general loan guidelines.  Loan requests should be sent to:
