The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge has a lengthy history of biological data collection, including a series of several types of legacy plots installed at different time periods for different vegetation studies. These plots include a series of moose exclosure plots, fire monitoring (NPS Fire Monitoring Handbook) plots, Hakala post-fire monitoring plots, and invasive plant plots. Each of the sets of legacy data provide a link to historical conditions, as well as contributes to our understanding of vegetation dynamics and fire risk across the Refuge and the Kenai Peninsula.
