National Wildlife Refuges work closely with other researchers, Universities and science-based organizations interested in supporting the agency’s wildlife conservation mission.

The following are some of the recent research projects conducted on Imperial National Wildlife Refuge: 

  • Monitoring feral burro impact on native vegetation 
  • Long-term monitoring of selected desert plants to detect effects of climate change 
  • Vegetation density monitoring of moist soil units for marsh habitat management  
  • National marshbird surveys  
  • Bat-exit count surveys at abandoned mines on the refuge
