Wetland LandscapeThe Huron Wetland Management District (WMD) is located in east central South Dakota and includes the counties of Beadle, Sanborn, Buffalo, Hughes, Sully, Jerauld, Hand, and Hyde.   The towns of Huron, Miller, Pierre, Redfield, and Wessington Springs have food and lodging. The Chamber of Commerce offices will list other activities and services available in these towns.

Huron, SD  

Population 12,706 (2011 U.S. Census Bureau). The town of Huron is located at the intersection of highways 14 and 37. The Huron WMD office is located in Huron in the federal building, on 200 4th St. SW, Federal Building, Room 309. Highway 14 changes to Dakota Avenue when you reach the city limits.  The federal building is located one block west of Dakota Ave. on 4th St. The Huron WMD shop is located 8 miles west of Huron and 3/4 mile north of Highway 14 on 392nd Ave. Huron and the surrounding communities provide food, lodging and many other local events.  Huron also hosts the South Dakota State Fair.  Visit the Huron Chamber of Commerce to see a more complete list of local amenities.

Miller, SD   

Population 1,485 (2011 U.S. Census Bureau).  Miller is located 44 Miles west of Huron, SD on Highway 14.

Pierre, SD   

Population 13,860 (2011 U.S. Census Bureau).  Pierre is located 116 miles to the west of Huron on Highway 83.  Pierre is the capitol of South Dakota and is located near the Missouri River.

Redfield, SD   

Population 2,355 (2011 U.S. Census Bureau).  Redfield is located 48 miles Northwest of Huron on Highway 281.

Wessington Springs, SD   

Population 963 (2011 U.S. Census Bureau).  Wessington Springs is Located about 40 miles SW of Huron SD.
