Know Before You Go:
  1. The best place to start your visit is the refuge office/visitor area. The refuge is open during daylight hours year round, including holidays. Handicap-accessible restrooms are located at the visitor parking lot. The refuge office is closed during the following holidays: New Year's Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Refuge activities are restricted or closed during scheduled youth hunts in the spring and fall. Call the refuge for specific dates.
  2. The wildlife drive is open every day, all year regardless of the holidays. Flooding along the Arkansas River may necessitate road or refuge closures. This information will be on this web site and posted at the entrance fee kiosk.
  3. The refuge is a nationally designated fee site and has a daily vehicle entrance fee. Annual and lifetime passes are also available. (Click here for entrance fees and available passes).
  4. Arkansas can be hot during the summer months. Make sure to bring plenty of water, sunscreen, hats, and bug spray, and appropriate footwear to ensure your safety while enjoying the Refuge.
  5. To ensure the safety of everyone, we ask that you please follow all speed limit signs and safety instructions and wear your seatbelts. While engulfed in nature, many people are not aware of their surroundings so please pay attention to what is around you.
  6. Dogs are permitted on the Wildlife Drive, as long as they are kept on a leash at all times.
