Education Center

Education Center

Pardon our dust! You may have noticed yellow tape and areas cordoned off around our education center at the refuge recently? That’s all in preparation of beginning our deferred maintenance project to replace the existing education center with a brand new facility.

The project will take about a year to complete and once finished will be a huge upgrade in providing for our youth and community. The Refuge partners with the Hobe Sound Nature Center to deliver nature-based interpretation programs and outreach efforts for our great community.

During this time, we ask that you stay clear of any construction activity going on at the refuge – the construction area will be clearly marked.

Some key updates during this process:
  • All existing, dedicated trails will remain open throughout the construction efforts.
  • We will be moving our self-orientation information materials to a temporary location along the Scrub Trail.
  • Parking will be reduced at times in order to make room for construction materials and equipment.
  • Construction activity will occur during the day.
  • Our bathrooms will close beginning in January 2021. We’ve ordered a temporary port-a-let that will be available until we can open the new bathrooms.

Some highlights of our completed project:
  • A new facility within the footprint of the existing facility
  • New smartboard
  • New mounted LCD projector
  • New sliding shelf units
  • New bathrooms with indoor/outdoor access
  • New water fountain with bottle filler
  • Covered walkways
