Rattlesnake Unit Access Draft SEIS Available For Comment

DSEIS Cover

For once the battle is lost, once our natural splendor is destroyed, it can never be recaptured. And once man can no longer walk with beauty, or wonder at nature, his spirit will wither and his sustenance be wasted. — President Lyndon Johnson, University of Michigan Graduation, May 22, 1964

The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service has released the Hanford Reach National Monument Rattlesnake Unit Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement for Public Access (DSEIS). The DSEIS is available for download below (PDF). Alternatively, you may request a copy on compact disk by calling (509) 546-8333 or through email at hanfordreach@fws.gov. A limited number of paper copies are also available.

The DSEIS addresses public access to the Monument’s Rattlesnake Unit, including Rattlesnake Mountain. Following a public comment period, the agency will make a final decision on the types and amount of public access to allow on the Rattlesnake Unit.

The closing date for public comment on the DSEIS is Wednesday, November 28, 2018. Comments should be submitted to: U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Rattlesnake Unit Comments, 64 Maple Street, Burbank, Washington 99323. Comments may also be submitted by email to hanfordreach@fws.gov. Questions may be submitted to that email address, or by calling (509) 546-8333.
