U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Seeks Comment on Draft Environmental Assessment for the Hanalei Viewpoint Project

Hanalei, Kauaʻi - The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service invites the public to review and comment on a draft Environmental Assessment for the proposed Hanalei Valley Viewpoint at Hanalei National Wildlife Refuge.

The Service is proposing the Hanalei Valley Viewpoint to connect the local community and visitors to the Hanalei National Wildlife Refuge. The proposed project will provide interpretive messages and panoramic views to the sensitive landscapes of the Refuge that currently has limited public access. The State of Hawai‘i Department of Transportation is a partner for this project, providing support and improvements to the Kūhi'ō Highway as part of the project.

The public is invited to attend the meeting to learn about the proposed project and how to provide public comments on the draft EA. At the meeting a short presentation will provide background and information on the proposed project. Representatives from the Service will be there to address questions from the public. The meeting will be on May 29, 2019 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Hale Halawai in Hanalei. All comments and information received by June 22, 2019, will be considered. The draft EA isavailable for review here.
