Alert- Great White Heron NWR is open to public; Nature Center at 30587 remains closed due to Covid safety concerns.

Great White Heron NWR is open to the general public seven days a week, 24 hours a day.  There are general regulations, fishing, boating, swimming, snorkeling/Scuba, photography and wildlife observation are encouraged.  (no jet skiis, no personal watercraft, no landing of seaplanes, no waterskiing, no hovercrafts or airboats, no camping, no access to any island above mean high tide line).  Island specific regulations also apply.


Great White Heron NWR is open to the general public for fishing, boating, swimming, snorkeling/Scuba, photography and wildlife observation.  Please review rules and regulations prior to your visit.  Vessel prohibitions include personal watercraft/jet skis, hovercrafts, airboats, landing of sea planes, water skiing.  All islands are closed above mean high tide.  Some islands have more restrictive regulations to protect roosting, nesting and foraging birds, endangered butterflies, sea turtles and other wildlife.
