Oak Grove Trail 2
  • Oak Grove Trail

    Bench on Oak Grove Trail

This birding trail is just off Bayou Heron Road, south of the headquarters building.

Expect to see various songbirds such as scarlet tanagers, warblers and more on the trail. This trail allows you to explore varied habitats with oak maritime forest intermingled with pine flatwoods. Wildflowers draw many species of butterflies, like the zebra swallowtail to the trail.

The trail is a switchback, ending as the landscape begins to transition into the wetter habitats leading into the bayou.

  • Escatawpa Trail

    Escatawpa River Overlook 2

**NOTICE* Due to ongoing erosion issues, Escatawpa Trail is Temporarily Closed.**  Located at the Mississippi State Welcome Center, these trails meander around mixed hardwood and pine forests and the scenic Escatawpa River. To reach the trail coming from Alabama (I-10 west), get off I-10 at the welcome center exit. Coming from Mississippi, use exit 75 and go north under the interstate and follow I-10 west to the welcome center.
