The U. S. Fish & Wildlife Service is offering an opportunity to graze cattle at Fort Niobrara National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) through a Cooperative Agricultural Agreement for a period of six weeks. The Refuge is located approximately four miles east of Valentine, Nebraska.

The purpose of the grazing program is to utilize this important habitat management tool to promote and enhance native grass and wildflower diversity, enhance nesting cover for migratory birds and waterfowl, and reduce invasive species.

Application packages and other information about the grazing program can be downloaded from this website, mailed, emailed, or picked up on-site from Fort Niobrara National Wildlife Refuge, 39983 Refuge Road, Valentine, NE 69201. Sealed bids are made using the refuge specific bid form. Bidders must also complete a Form 3-1383-C, Special Use Permit (SUP) Application.

Sealed bid opening will be 1:00 PM, Friday, April 20, 2018 at Fort Niobrara National Wildlife Refuge. All bids and SUP applications must be received at Fort Niobrara National Wildlife Refuge by that time. Hand-delivered forms will be accepted at the Fort Niobrara refuge office but they must be sealed in envelope and marked as indicated on bid form. Bids will not be accepted via FAX or Email because they cannot be considered sealed prior to the bid opening. The Fish and Wildlife Service reserves the right to refuse any or all bids.

The permittee will be selected based on the high bid per Animal Unit Month (AUM) and the ability to provide the desired number of animals during the grazing period.

Please call Refuge Manager, Steve Hicks at 402-376-3789 x200 or email at steve_hicks@fws.gov, if you have any further questions or would like an application package.
