The refuge will be opening its first land-based manatee observation areas this winter. With this, the refuge staff will coordinate environmental education and interpretation programs with the local community and schools so that children and families can be involved in learning more about the local manatee population. Children can help study these animals along with refuge staff by making observations from manatee viewing areas around the boardwalk surrounding Three Sisters Springs and other areas. The refuge will schedule programs for children and families on a regular basis throughout the winter manatee season. You may call the refuge office for more information on programs for children and families at 352-563-2088.
