Fishing is allowed on designated areas of the Crescent Lake National Wildlife Refuge in accordance with State regulations and subject to the following conditions: 

  • The Refuge is open to the general public from sunrise to sunset. However, anglers may enter the Refuge one hour prior to sunrise and must be back to their vehicle in the process of leaving the Refuge one hour after official sunset. 
  • Island Lake is open to fishing year-round. Smith and Crane Lakes are open to fishing seasonally from November 1 through February 15. All other Refuge lakes are closed to fishing.
  • The possession or use of live or dead minnows is prohibited as is the possession of any fish not taken lawfully from the Refuge lakes open to fishing. The use of dead smelt is permitted.
  • Boating and float tubes are allowed on Island Lake only. Internal combustion motors are prohibited for use with boats on Island Lake; all other Refuge lakes are closed to boating or float tubing.
  • Shelters used for fishing may not be left overnight on the Refuge.
