All local, state and federal regulations apply on the refuge. General regulations include the following:• The refuge is open during daylight hours only, from sunrise to sunset.• Entering any area posted with area closed signs is prohibited.• Marsh Island and White Banks Islands are closed to protect nesting birds from February 15 - September 15.• Camping is prohibited. Camping facilities are located nearby on the Francis Marion National Forest. Call the Sewee Center at (843) 928-3368.• Fires are prohibited.• Hunting is permitted on approximately 16,500 acres of the refuge during open hunting seasons and in open hunt areas. Hunters are required to familiarize themselves with Federal and State regulations regarding method of hunting, weapons allowed, bag limits, etc.• Effective February 2010, persons possessing, transporting, or carrying firearms on National Wildlife Refuges must comply with all provisions of state and local law. Persons may only use (discharge) firearms in accordance with refuge regulations (50 CFR 27.42 and specific refuge regulations in 50 CFR Part 32).
• All natural, historical, and archaeological resources are protected. Artifact hunting is not allowed. The use or possession of metal detectors is prohibited.• Shell collectors are allowed to take one small bag of unoccupied shells. Collection of shells for commercial purposes is prohibited.
